Mental Health and Psychological Support
T&L Psychology provides clinical psychology support for children, young people and adults experiencing a range of emotional and psychological difficulties.
The focus is on developing a clear understanding of an individual's experiences, the factors contributing to current difficulties, and how these can be supported in a meaningful and practical way.
Areas of difficulty
Support may be helpful where individuals are experiencing:
Anxiety and worry – low mood and depression – stress and burnout – trauma and post-traumatic responses – emotional regulation difficulties – grief and bereavement – difficulties in relationships or coping with life changes.
Understanding and formulation
Clinical work begins with developing a shared understanding of the individual's difficulties. This involves considering current experiences alongside past events, life context and personal strengths.
The aim is to develop a formulation that explains how difficulties have developed and are being maintained, and to use this to guide appropriate support.
Therapeutic support
Where appropriate, therapeutic work may be offered to support change, adaptation or recovery.
This may draw on a range of psychological approaches, depending on the individual's needs, including cognitive and behavioural approaches, attachment-informed work and trauma-aware models.
The emphasis is on flexible, individualised support rather than a single fixed approach.
Children, young people and families
Work with children and young people may involve working with parents or carers, and considering the wider family context.
Support may include understanding behaviour, emotional development, and the impact of life experiences such as loss, change or adversity.
Links with neurodiversity
Mental health difficulties may occur alongside neurodevelopmental differences such as ADHD, autism or dyslexia.
Where relevant, this will be considered as part of the overall understanding, ensuring that support is appropriate to the individual's needs and experiences.
Approach
The approach is person-centred, trauma-aware and grounded in clinical formulation. This involves working collaboratively to develop understanding and identify practical ways forward.
The aim is to provide support that is thoughtful, respectful and relevant to everyday life.
