Workplace and Occupational Assessment and Advice
T&L Psychology provides clinical psychology input where difficulties are affecting functioning in the workplace or professional roles.
The focus is on understanding how an individual's cognitive profile, strengths and areas of difficulty interact with the demands of their role, and how this may impact performance, wellbeing and sustainability.
Areas of difficulty
Support may be helpful where there are difficulties such as:
Sustaining attention and concentration – organisation and time management – managing workload and competing demands – fatigue and cognitive overload – emotional regulation under pressure – communication and interpersonal demands – maintaining consistency and performance over time.
Understanding work-related difficulties
Work begins with developing a clear understanding of the interaction between the individual and their working environment. This includes considering the specific demands of the role, workplace expectations, and any relevant contextual factors.
The aim is to identify where there may be a mismatch between the individual's profile and the requirements of the role, and how this may be contributing to current difficulties.
Neurodiversity in the workplace
Workplace difficulties may be associated with neurodevelopmental differences such as ADHD, autism or dyslexia.
Where relevant, this will be considered as part of the overall formulation, ensuring that any recommendations are appropriate and grounded in a clear understanding of the individual's needs.
Assessment and recommendations
Where appropriate, assessment may include a detailed review of functioning, and in some cases formal cognitive or psychometric assessment.
Recommendations are focused on practical adjustments and strategies to support effective and sustainable working.
This may include:
Workload and task management – adjustments to working patterns or expectations – environmental modifications – communication strategies – support for organisation and planning.
Reports and professional input
Where required, structured reports can be provided to support occupational health processes, Access to Work applications, or discussions with employers.
Reports are based on a clear clinical understanding of the individual's functioning and are designed to support appropriate and proportionate recommendations.
Approach
The approach is grounded in clinical formulation and focuses on practical outcomes. The aim is to support both understanding and effective change, in a way that is realistic within the context of the individual's role and working environment.
